Pregnancy Notes and GROW Project history:

2001-2003

  • November 2001- 1st draft (beta version 1) presented to external advisory group and to National Maternity Record Group
  • February 2002 - Revisions following consultation completed; Beta version 2 printed
  • March/April 2002 - 'Road show' by WMPI team presenting Notes in all 20 maternity units in the region
  • May 2002 - Publication of Notes on web and in BJM
  • May/June 2002 - Field trial in Redditch completed
  • June 2002 - Revisions following consultation and regional and national feedback. Beta version 3 printed
  • June 14th 2002 - Launch at regional Perinatal Forum, further feedback recieved
  • July 2002 - Version 4 printed and disseminated to all units in the Region and to all UK Heads of Midwifery
  • August/September 2002 - Local, regional and national feedback considered and revisions made
  • September 2002 - Three Liaison Midwives commenced one year secondment to the Institute to facilitate training and implement use of Notes in West Midlands region
  • September/October 2002 - Sub-regional workshops held in - Coventry and Warwick - at Walsgrave, 23 September; Birmingham - at WMPI, 3 October; Hereford and Worcestershire - at Worcester, 9 October; Black Country - at Wordsley/Corbett, 14 October; Staffs and Shrops - final revisions made, version 5 printed.
  • October 3rd 2002 - First national workshop in Birmingham, with representatives from 36 units outside the West Midlands
  • December 2002 - Version 5 of Notes sent to national Heads of Midwifery and Local Supervisory Authority Midwifery Officers
  • December 2002 - West Midlands regional training programme commenced
  • January 29th 2003 - Second national workshop with representatives from 14 units outside the West Midlands
  • April 2003 - First round of regional training completed
  • May 2003 - Follow-on/drop-in sessions commenced and developed as required by individual units' specifications
  • May 6th 2003 - Third national workshop with representatives from 3 units outside the West Midlands
  • May 8th 2003 -Training in Airedale
  • May 29th 2003 – Training in Cardiff
  • June 2003 - Revision of version 6 of the notes commenced
  • July 2003 - Revision of version 7 of the notes commenced
  • July 2nd 2003 - GP training commenced
  • July 11th 2003 – Fourth National Improving Perinatal Care workshop, with
    representatives from 4 units outside the West Midlands
  • September 2003 – Liaison Midwives secondment completed. Specialist Midwives Kate Morse and Jill Wright continue facilitation of Notes implementation strategy
  • September 11th 2003 – Notes presented at LSA meeting in Wrightington
  • October 7th 2003 – Fifth National Improving Perinatal Care Workshop, with representation from 8 units outside the West Midlands
  • November 11th 2003 – Notes presented at LSA meeting in Winchester
  • November 6th and 7th 2003 – Training in Whitehaven and Carlisle (Cumbria)
  • December 10th and 11th 2003 – Training in Barrow, Kendall and Lancaster (Cumbria)

2004 - 2007

  • Jan 2004 – Revision of the Notes to reflect recommendations from Antenatal Care Guideline ( NICE, Oct 2003). Notes version now identified as 4.1 (year and print run – 2004, number 1).
  • February 13th 2004 – Training in Northern Ireland - Omagh and Altnagalvin
  • March 15th 2004 – Evaluation commenced on use of the Notes in clinical practice
  • May 6th 2004 – Sixth National Improving Perinatal Care workshop, with representation from 9 units outside the West Midlands
  • June 2nd 2004 – Region wide audit on indications for referrals for growth scans
  • June 22nd 2004 – Presentation of scan audit at RUG meeting
  • July 2004 – Results of evaluation survey on the use of the Notes in clinical practice were presented to region and revisions agreed
  • July 8th 2004 – Seventh National Improving Perinatal Care workshop, with representation from 6 units and one independent midwife from outside the West Midlands
  • July 15th 2004 – Outside region follow-up workshop in Airedale
  • July 28th 2004 – Consultation meeting re: translation of pregnancy notes information into Urdu
  • September 2004 – Version 4.2 published
  • October 14th 2004 – Eighth National Improving Perinatal Care workshop, with representation from 3 units outside the West Midlands
  • November 1st 2004 – presentation of latest version to all users of notes both in and outside region
  • December 3rd 2004 – Urdu translation, further revisions made
  • January 11th 2005 - Ninth National Improving Perinatal Care workshop, with representation from 4 units and one independent midwife outside the West Midlands
  • February 23rd and 24th 2005 – Notes training in Oldham and North Manchester
  • February 28th and March 1st – Notes training in Rochdale and Bury
  • March 15th 2005 - Tenth National Improving Perinatal Care workshop, with representation from 3 units outside the West Midlands
  • April 12th 2005 – Follow-up workshop in Whitehaven and Carlisle (Cumbria)
  • June 22nd & 23rd – Notes training in York
  • July 5th 2005 - Notes training in High Wycombe
  • July 6th 2005 - National Improving Perinatal Care workshop
  • July 11th 2005 - Notes training in Stoke Mandeville
  • July 13th & 14th 2005 - Notes training in St Mary's, Manchester
  • September 16th 2005 - Notes training in St Mary's, Manchester
  • September 29th 2005 - National Improving Perinatal Care workshop
  • October 14th 2005 - Notes training in St Mary's, Manchester
  • October 20th and 21st - Notes training in Trafford Hospital, Manchester
  • January 2006 - Version 6.1 published
